he NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) is currently recruiting new Youth Council Members.
The Youth Council serves as an extension of the NAACP that focuses on social justice activism addressing the concerns of young people. The objective is to teach and nurture civil rights without discrimination.
These ideas were proclaimed during the Akron Chapter’s Youth Council involvement in the 2018 “March for Our Lives” protest against gun violence.
The Youth Council’s core agenda addresses:

Voting Rights and Representation;

Economic Sustainability;
-
Education;
-
Health;
-
Juvenile Justice.
The advantages of joining the Youth Council are:

Free membership for the first year ($10 annually);

Educational filed trips
-
Collaborative efforts with others to address issues effecting adolescents and young adults;

Enforcing leadership skills;
-
Scholarship opportunities;
The group meets every third Thursday at SUMMA Equity Center at New Seasons 1493 S Hawkins Ave, Akron, OH 44320 from 5:30pm to 7:00pm.Light snacks are provided.
We are looking for middle and high students, from all racial backgrounds, who are interested in developing skills necessary for leadership and activism aimed at securing equality for all people.
If you know any future leaders, activists and/or students who would benefit from positive peer interactions, the Youth NAACP is for them.
